The one-cycle educational program “Medical Doctor” at "Avicenna - Batumi Medical University" LLC was designed with the University's mission, vision, and the high demands placed on doctors as representatives of the most humane profession in mind, all while adhering to Medicine Sector Benchmarks. The program is built on the motto: lifelong learning for life.
This program aims to develop second-level higher education learning outcomes, covering basic natural, behavioral and social, clinical sciences, drugs, and their prescribing principles, as well as an understanding of the public health system and the doctor's role within it, including ethical and legal principles. The program integrates both horizontal and vertical principles and includes transdisciplinary modules. It focuses on developing clinical competencies, basic skills, and effective management of medical resources.
The program's structure and content are formulated according to the following principle:
❖ 3-phase concept:
- Basic phase: This phase includes an introduction to biomedical sciences and modules based on system functional criteria: life, nutrition, movement, reproduction, homeostasis, control. It focuses on studying normal human structure, function, and development, as well as the integration and regulation of physiological mechanisms and their relevance to the clinical context.
- Preclinical phase: This phase combines the disciplines of pathology of organ systems, diagnostics, and basic pharmacology, and is directed towards understanding the differences between normality and disease, organ system damage, functional deficits, and the causes of diseases. It includes clinical, histopathological, laboratory, and radiological manifestations and mastery of relevant clinical skills, which are clear and measurable for teaching and assessment.
- Clinical phase: This phase focuses on acquiring in-depth knowledge of the complete clinical picture of major nosologies, their differentiation, and their conservative and surgical management, as well as specific methods of intervention necessary for prevention. It also includes mastery of relevant clinical skills, independent clinical thinking, management of emergency medical conditions, and the ability to make effective decisions and take appropriate actions based on the "do no harm" principle and evidence-based medicine. An important aspect of this phase is the hospital medicine and health and longevity module, which teaches the principle of continuity in medical service from prevention to rehabilitation.
